Interruptus[]

Matt walks out of the garage looking for his phone and interrupts his parents in a compromising position. John finds the phone under Joan but Matt tells him to keep it and retreats back into the garage. The next morning at breakfast Matt says he's going to buy a new phone and John tells him that's a good idea since the phone had accidentally filmed them and he doesn't know how to delete it, which Joan finds hilarious. She tells Matt that him moving back in is a big adjustment for everyone and he should talk to a therapist if he can't talk to them.

Sitting down with his mother, she tells Matt that he should be able to talk about what happened, and he says that he did talk, he texted Greg and Heather all night about it and they are just as disturbed as him. Joan then calls her other children and their spouses to the house for a chat. Joan asks what they would say to their children if they were ever in that position and tells them that the real issue is communication, which effects every member of the family. Now Tyler, Sam and Sophia are brought into the discussion.

Joan makes the family pair up for an activity where they have to look into each others eyes and communicate. No one takes the task too seriously but don't know how long they have to continue, Jen having been paired with Tim leaves immediately. Matt and Greg play a game where they try to say the same thing at the same time, unsuccessfully, and Joan and John decide their work is done. The next night when Charlie Rose is on the television again, Joan decides that they should go to the bedroom this time, but Matt is horrified when he can hear them.

Second Date[]

Matt's car won't start when he goes to pick up Colleen for their second date, John asks if Colleen knows that Matt is broke and he says no because she's his boss who just broke up with her weird fiancé, so he's trying to seem like the better option. Matt tells his father that she's special, she just came into his life at a bad time, so John shows him a trick he used when he was a pilot, involving tequila. When he and Colleen get to the restaurant, an attendant says he is having trouble starting Matt's car, so Matt tells Colleen he'll be back and together they push his car into a parking spot.

They play a game where they draw each other without looking at the paper, and Matt reassures Colleen that no one is a terrible artist, until he sees her drawing and concedes that some people actually are. When the bill comes Matt takes it up to the register and cheers when his card goes through, then makes the excuse to Colleen that he was congratulating the pregnant waitress, who gives him a weird look. Colleen ordered many drinks throughout dinner so after paying the bill Matt asks what's going on, and she tells him that tonight was supposed to be her wedding to Chad. She says that because of the late cancellation she still had to pay for the reception, and Matt says they should confront the manager. Colleen tells him to get the car but he suggests they walk, and the attendant from earlier comes over and informs Matt that his car is on fire, to which he laughs as if it's a joke.

Matt and Colleen arrive at the wedding venue and ask to see the supposedly empty ballroom, since they believe that they booked another guest and are stiffing her, but the manager leads them to the actually empty ballroom. Colleen starts to cry and tells Matt her life is a disaster and he is released from dating her because he is too sweet to be caught up in her mess. She goes to leave but Matt stops her saying his car is actually on fire and when the date is over he's gonna have to call his mom to pick them up. Matt says they are both disasters which makes them perfect for each other and they should help the dating world by taking each other off the market. She kisses him and they ask for a DJ and disco ball and dance with each other in the empty ballroom.

Breast-Feeding[]

As Jen struggles with breast-feeding, she rebuffs Greg's suggestion of supplementing with formula and the couple calls in a couple that are eccentric lactation consultants. They try several unconventional methods, such as standing in a circle holding each others breasts for an hour and Jen telling her breasts that she forgives them. The lactation consultants then try to demonstrate a way to breast feed, which makes Greg again try to convince Jen to use formula. The consultants ask if he had just said that "f-word", and the man says to never say that word in front of his sister, which makes Jen and Greg pause.

At the supermarket Greg and Jen grab formula, which Jen is visibly unhappy about. When they get home Greg tells Jen that Lark is lucky to have her as a mother, when they are suddenly ambushed by the lactation consultants who steal one box of the formula, saying they weren't paid to give up and the baby will thank them. Greg and Jen say that they hate those two, then realize that they have another box of formula in the bag still and run inside as the lactation consultant chases after them.

Movin' Out[]

The Hughes are moving a few miles away and Heather gets emotional when the kids are sad to move from the house they've lived in their whole lives. Tim sings I Like to Move It Move It, from Madagascar and Matt comes over to help. When the movers get there Heather warns that they are all ex-convicts because she hired a second-chances charity. When they come across something that relates to why they where incarcerated they have to blow a whistle, which makes the Hughes jump every time.

A mover comes across a little box under Tyler's bed and Tyler begs him not to blow the whistle because his parents will find out. Matt sees what's happening and convinces the mover to give him the box instead of alerting the rest of the house, which makes Tyler thank him and try to take the box back. Matt keeps it but is disappointed when it's just one upper pill, which he takes immediately.

Once everything is packed to go the kids say goodbye to the house and Heather tells them that it's okay so long as their family is together, which Sophia says includes the pets that they buried in the backyard. Matt announces that they'll dig them up and Heather remarks that he has a lot of energy all of a sudden. They fill a blow up kiddy pool with the dead pets and attach it to the car, which Tim says he will drive slowly. Sophia tells the house not to like it's new family better than them, and they soon arrive at their new house, right across the street from Joan and John. But when Tim pulls into the garage, the kiddy pool is knocked off the car roof, and the dead pets are spilled all over the drive way.
